Humber celebrates 50 years of music education this year. Over the last five decades, many talented people have passed through the halls to learn their craft.  

The 52nd annual JUNO Awards happen March 13 in Edmonton and celebrate the best in Canadian music.

At this year's JUNOs, a number of Humber alumni and people connected to the Music programs have been nominated.

Group of the Year

Arkells – Humber graduate Anthony Carone is a member of the band.

Rock Album of the Year

Outta Sight by The Sheepdogs – Humber graduate Shamus Currie is a member of the band.

Vocal Jazz Album of the Year

Featuring by Caity Gyorgy – Gyorgy is a Humber graduate.

The Ostara Project by The Ostara Project – The ensemble includes Humber Music faculty Jocelyn Gould and Amanda Tosoff and Humber graduate Allison Au.

Jazz Album of the Year (Solo)

Joy by Ernesto Cervini – Cervini is a former Humber Music faculty member.

A Little Louder Now by Lauren Falls – Falls is a Humber graduate.

El Tinajon by Luis Deniz – Deniz is a former Humber Music faculty member.

Jazz Album of the Year (Group)

Talk Memory by BADBADNOTGOOD – Humber graduate Leland Whitty is a member of the band that includes former Humber students.

The History of Us by Carn Davidson 9 – The band includes former Humber Music faculty Will Carn, Tara Davidson and Kevin Turcotte, current Humber Music faculty Shirantha Beddage, and Humber graduate Christian Overton.

The Dragon’s Tail by Mark Kelso & the Jazz Exiles – The band includes retired Humber Music faculty Mark Kelso, former Humber Music Faculty Luis Deniz, and current Humber Music Faculty Rich Brown.

Adult Contemporary Album of the Year

Adventure Book by Francois Klark – Klark is a Humber graduate.

Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year

Please Do Not Lean featuring BADBADNOTGOOD by Daniel Caesar – Humber graduate Leland Whitty is a member of the band BADBADNOTGOOD that also includes former Humber students.

The awards show will be broadcast live on CBC starting at 8 p.m. on March 13.
