TORONTO, ONTARIO – Humber College and the Ontario government are expanding the Learn and Earn Accelerated Program for Personal Support Workers in Long-Term Care (LTC). With the goal of training up to 600 new personal support workers (PSWs) across the province, this online program is designed to expedite the training process for current LTC staff, including resident attendants and dietary aides, enabling them to become certified PSWs. The government is investing $16.5 million to extend the program for another three years, with three cohorts per year.
“The Learn and Earn Accelerated Program for Personal Support Workers in Long-Term Care will help long-term care workers grow their careers, support the staffing needs of rural, remote and northern long-term care homes and most importantly, increase care for residents, I want to thank Humber College for partnering with us to deliver this important program as we work together to strengthen our long-term care system," said Hon. Paul Calandra, Minister of Long-Term Care.
First launched in 2022, the program involves completing online intensive coursework followed by a paid on-site clinical placement at the LTC home where the participant already works. By allowing individuals to receive training while remaining in their communities, the Learn and Earn Accelerated Program for Personal Support Workers in Long-Term Care initiative eliminates geographical and financial barriers that may hinder their career growth.

The province-wide extension of the Learn and Earn Accelerated Program for Personal Support Workers in Long-Term Care program will include LTC homes in rural and northern communities. Spaces are now open for enrollment starting in either July or October.
