Dear Students,

As Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 semesters' programs and courses are a mixture of in-person, remote and online offerings, we are committed to continuing to provide many services to support your academic and personal success. We will work hard to meet your needs via online, phone, and in-person services. You'll also get to use tools such as Blackboard and/or Microsoft Teams to maintain a virtual, personal connection with staff, faculty, and other students.

Our aim, as always, is to support your health and well-being. We will adjust our plans and offerings in response to changing conditions and your feedback.

We understand this is a challenging time. Counselling appointments are available virtually by telephone or video. You can book an appointment by contacting counselling@humber.ca or by phone at 416-675-5090 (North) or 416-675-6622 ext. 3331 (Lakeshore).

For after-hours counselling support, you can access the Good2Talk Helpline at 1-866-925-5454, or use Therapy Assist Online, which provides online and mobile tools.

Academic and Learning Supports

Accounting Centre

The Accounting Centre services are available by using the Live Support link via our website https://business.humber.ca/current-students/resources/learning-labs/accounting-centre.html or by email at accountingcentre@humber.ca.  In addition, the Accounting Centre also provides services using Blackboard Collaborate Ultra webinar room. You can use this service by clicking on the following link: https://ca.bbcollab.com/guest/3e16a0fac38e456bba597c61787d9198.

Our hours of operation are:
Monday to Thursday: 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Bookstore

The Humber College Campus Stores are OPEN and offering an online shopping experience as well as in-store shopping to provide students and the Humber community with one-stop convenience. Students can purchase everything from their course materials to the supplies such as notebooks, paper, writing instruments, calculators, etc. to aid in their studies on or off-campus.

Order Online www.humbershop.ca for North Campus and www.humberlakeshoreshop.ca for Lakeshore Campus. FREE pick up in-store. 

Online orders will be shipped to students' homes or to an address of their choice or select FREE pick up in-store. The current processing time for order fulfillment is within 48-72 hours. If an item is not available in our store, that order will be sent to another Campus Store within our chain for fulfillment. Delivery time for these will be 4-6 days.  

To provide contactless service, online order pick-up will be handled at the window outside the store (Window in the Wall) at the North Campus.  

Options available for course materials:

• Print: Textbooks (format Hardcover, Softcover, Loose leaf) - these options are dictated by publishers  

• Digital: Either PDF e-book or Adaptive Learning /Homework Management.

• Bundles: Two or more textbooks or textbook with Digital card sold as one unit

We carry rental, digital and used textbook formats to help save you money. 

The stores carry a wide variety of Humber and University Of Guelph-Humber gifts and swag. You can customize a program sweater (Hoodie or Crewneck ) at the Campus store. We have 9 colors to choose from, minimum order of 12 pieces. Get an additional 20% discount on the order. For more information, please contact the Campus stores.

Finally, if you are in the mood for snacking or need convenience items, a selection of soft drinks, snack food and personal items are available.

Information Technology Services

Information Technology Services offers technical support to all students, both full-time and part-time.    

We can help you with your log-on credentials, printing, and assist with various software.   

We offer laptop loans, and have partnered with a company that offers student-priced, refurbished computers. You can call or chat with us 24/7, 365 days of the year.

Math & Writing Centres

The Math & Writing Centre and Peer Assisted Learning Support (PALS) will be supporting the students remotely during our regular hours of operation.

Online Writing and Math Support will be available to all Humber and University of Guelph-Humber students during our regular hours of operation. You will also find support for your research and other courses by visiting our partners in Humber Libraries, and Peer Assisted Learning Support (PALS).

Open Learning Centre

The Centre is open virtually Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays 9-4 p.m. (hours subject to change during holidays). You can email questions to olc@humber.ca or chat with an advisor during office hours at www.humberonline.ca

Parking and Lockers

Parking:

Paid parking at all Humber College campuses will be reinstated at the beginning of the Fall 2021 semester on Monday, September 13. Complimentary parking will continue for the first week of the semester through Friday, September 10.

Fall 2021 semester parking permits for students go on sale online through MyHumber effective 12:01AM on Tuesday, August 10. On campus parking permits cost $293.25 inclusive of HST.

Winter 2022 semester parking permits will be sold separately and will be available in late November/early December. 

Please note that cash payments for daily parking at North Campus will no longer be accepted as of Monday, September 13. Accepted methods of payment include debit, credit, and contactless mobile wallets such as Apple Pay.

Lockers:

Peer Assisted Learning Support

Peer Assisted Learning Support (PALS) and The Math & Writing Centre will be supporting the students remotely during our regular hours of operation. We continue to provide free peer-led academic support for all Humber and University of Guelph-Humber students. Peer Tutoring will commence on Monday, September 13th, and we are off to a strong start! We have nearly 30 returning tutors and are working on recruiting, even more, Peer Tutors.

Test Centre

Remote invigilation is also available upon request. All admissions testing is currently being supported remotely with the use of our third party proctor, Examity.

Please note that when meeting with an advisor in-person, you will be required to present your Humber Guardian App approval screen before your meeting. A staff member will then collect some basic contact information from you for tracking purposes, and will provide you with a procedural face mask and shield to wear for the duration of your in-person meeting.

Indigenous Education & Engagement

The Indigenous Education & Engagement Centres at North and Lakeshore campuses have developed expanded online and limited in-person events, resources and student support offerings.

This Fall, IE&E has opened a Residence Lounge at the Lakeshore Campus for Indigenous students, similar to the North Campus Wigwamen Lounge.

The BASE (Black Academic Success and Engagement)

Financial Wellbeing

Financial Aid

In-person services with Financial Aid at the North and Lakeshore campuses are currently being offered on by appointment only Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm. Students are required to call Financial Aid at 416-675-3111 ext. 4245 to request an appointment.

The Financial Aid Contact Centre will be operational Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You can reach the Financial Aid Contact Centre at 416-675-3111.

Mental and Physical Health

Humber is committed to having a healthy and inclusive community. This means that even though some staff and students are on campus and others are working and learning from home, health and wellness is still a priority for all.

Here are some of the ways you can stay active and engaged this term.

On-campus Options
Please be advised of the following guidelines for our athletic facilities as part of the provincial government’s vaccine certificate program, which was announced on Wednesday, September 1.

In order to access Humber's fitness centres, all facility users will be required to show the green QR code on their Humber Guardian App Vaccine Passport as well as the green QR code on their daily self-screening in the app. 

Under these conditions, and in alignment with industry best practices and current safety protocol for contact tracing from the provincial government, Humber Athletics has an online reservation system for booking workout slots at our fitness centres. Drop-in hours are not available, and all Humber/UGH students and staff members are required to pre-register their workout time. *We are currently not open for General Public Memberships, this will be re-evaluated in mid-October.*

 

Off-campus Options
For all staff and students working off-site and learning online, Humber Athletics will continue to offer its wide range of virtual activities to support overall physical and mental health and wellness.

Live and on-demand fitness classes include strength training, yoga, circuit training, kickboxing and more.

We are also continuing to offer virtual personal trainers to help you achieve your personal best.

The Student Recruitment & Pre-enrolment Advising Services department is offering both email and phone pre-enrolment advising from Monday to Friday between 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students who are interested in pursuing a full-time program at Humber can take the Humber Career Finder to narrow down their choices. The student can then connect directly with a Recruitment Officer who will help them figure out the best program that fits their goals, guide them on the admission requirements and develop a detailed plan of action for their future.

International Centre and Services

The International Centre is now open, and our hours of operation for Humber North, Humber Lakeshore and the Humber International Graduate School are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Monday to Friday. Our phone lines are also operational.

While you can come to the International Centre for advice and help, students will not be able to book individual 1-1 appointments in person until early September. We will let you know when this option is available once we have a confirmed date. If you need to speak with someone from the admissions or student advising team, you can request a virtual appointment through the Contact form

Orientation

Here are all the ways you can virtually get involved with Fall 2021 Orientation: 

Virtual Meet Your Faculty Sessions (August 30 - September 2) - Students will have the opportunity to meet with their program's Faculty to interact with their new peers and our volunteers and learn more about their academic expectations specific to their program. 

Orientation Website (Available for the entire academic year) - Supports students, families and friends with understanding specific resources available to them at Humber College. 

Welcome Month (September 7 - October 1) - Students can attend events throughout Welcome Month hosted by our many campus partners, access virtual workshops, and download digital swag

Online Orientation: Blackboard Module This module will be available to students for the entire Fall Semester. Please visit learn.humber.ca and use your student N number and password to log into Blackbeard, Humber’s learning management system. Use My Courses, look for the Humber Orientation module. This Online Orientation will get students familiar with all the wonderful student services Humber offers, how to get involved and find community on campus and how to find the support you need to succeed. Students who complete the Online Orientation module and fill out the survey will be entered to win $1000 toward their tuition!

Residence

Residence remains open with limited occupancy for Summer and Fall terms. Students with on-campus academic requirements or exceptional circumstances are being prioritized for residence spaces for Fall 2021. We currently have a waitlist for Fall, and encourage students to apply for residence via https://myresidence.humber.ca/StarRezPortalX to complete an application and add themselves to the waitlist. Spaces will be offered to eligible students on the waitlist on a first-come, first-served basis.
