The Collaborative Accessibility Coach project will work alongside select Student Success and Engagement (SSE) departments to adopt more accessible practices in their day-to-day work, which will indirectly benefit hundreds of learners living with disabilities at Humber, ultimately leading to sustained change.

The project will partner first with Athletics and Recreation (A+R), and Student Learning Services (consisting of Peer Assisted Learning Support, the Math Centre and Writing Centre), two departments that have expressed a motivation and desire for change. The idea here is around addressing some of the bigger physical, communication and attitude barriers that learners with disabilities continue to face in their interactions with service departments at Humber.

The Collaborative Accessibility Coach would work 1:1 with Humber staff and student employees in both Athletics and Recreation, and Student Learning Services, to examine current programming, build relationships across departments, nurture trust, activate existing knowledge and expanding and strengthen opportunities around accessible practices, ultimately, boosting the confidence and skills of staff to better meet needs of learners with disabilities.
