Work Placement Services in the School of Applied Technology is pleased to report on the launch of a Peer-to-Peer learning initiative focused on student job search success, in collaboration with The Business School’s Bachelor of Commerce - Human Resources program.

Over the month of November, an impressive group of 3rd and 4th year HR students spent some time in the Work Placement office at North. They were on hand to provide resume and mock interview feedback to Applied Technology students participating in work placement in Summer 2016. This forum provided Applied Tech students the opportunity to gain additional experience above and beyond their prep workshops, and learn from other students before a more intimidating real job interview. The HR students noted the experience also served to hone their assessment and interviewer skills – something which will look great on their resumes when they search for employment.

In addition, an event was held on November 12th which brought together all the HR student contributors and over 100 students from Applied Technology, for an evening of “All Things Job Search” (and pizza!). Some students who did their work terms last summer dropped by to share their success stories, and the HR students were there again to help with resumes and mock interviews. Representatives were on hand from the Placement Offices of both the Schools of Applied Technology and Business, as well as the Career Centre and International Office, to help students with any and all job-related questions.

The highlight of the evening was a “What to Wear, What Not to Wear” Fashion Show, which left a lasting impression with students on how to dress for success!

A huge thank you to the HR Program and HR students for making this peer-to-peer learning collaboration a great success.
