International Day of Action Against Contract Cheating

Date/Time:
October 19, 2016 - 11:00am

An important Call to Action Day is being hosted by the International Centre for Academic Integrity and will be taking place on Wednesday, October 19th around the world. This international day of action against Contract Cheating is intended to raise people’s awareness around its existence and the threats it has to our educational systems and the certificates, diplomas, and degrees we grant here at Humber College ITAL.

Contract cheating occurs when one person completes academic work (e.g., assignment, exam, paper, test, quiz, exam) for another who then submits it for academic credit. Newton and Lang (2016) note that contract cheating accounts for about 20% of the plagiairsm detected through Turnitin. In 2013, Matthews found that contract cheating is a fast growing business as noted through essay mills and study sites that post unauthorized notes, tests, and exams. Humber has an opportunity to participate in standing up to speak out for Education with integrity. On October 19th the Whiteboard Declarations will be taking place across all 3 campuses; Orangeville, North, Lakeshore.

We ask that you take a moment to participate by coming and writing your message about Contract Cheating–then take a picture–and tweet it out using the hashtag #excelwithintegrity. Your voice is important, your voice is needed and will be heard around the world.
Let’s stand together and stand up for education.
