Take Back the Night March

Humber College is committed to promoting a learning, working and living environment that is free from all forms of discrimination and harassment. As part of our commitment, the College is hosting its second annual Take Back the Night march on Thursday, September 28th, 2017, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A shuttle bus will be leaving Lakeshore Campus at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Lakeshore Bookstore.

Take Back the Night is a movement that was started by women who had experienced sexual assault. Women and their allies marched and participated through rallies, marches and candlelight vigils, to denounce all forms of sexual violence. Today, Take Back the Night recognizes that all people of all genders can experience sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence. However, women, particularly women with disabilities, indigenous and racialized women, low-income women, and trans women are more likely to experience such violence.

Everyone is welcome to attend and march in solidarity with survivors of sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence. We encourage self-identified survivors to take the lead at the front of the march if they would like, with allies and advocates marching in support behind them.

In preparation for the march, Aboriginal drummers and a Punjabi dholi will kick off the event with drumming in the LRC, North Campus. Humber welcomes Yamikani Msosa to share remarks about the importance of supporting survivors and creating a culture of consent. We will end the night by taking to the streets, and marching the perimeter of Humber’s North campus.

Join the Consent is Sexy Crew and Humber Galleries for sign-making prior to the march. Share your chants and messages in solidarity with survivors.

Sign-making will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on the first floor of the LRC (North Campus).

Child care will be available on September 28th starting at 6:00 p.m. Please note that there are limited spots (approximately 15 spots).
