Viewing your class Response Rate during the Student Feedback Questionnaire (SFQ)

What is the Student Feedback Questionnaire (SFQ)?

The Student Feedback Questionnaire (SFQ) is Humber’s primary mechanism for collecting anonymous student feedback on the learning experience in each course, every semester. It is designed to support instructional development and continuous improvement by providing instructors with constructive insights into students’ perceptions of their learning environment. SFQ results are confidential and are not used in employment or contract negotiations. This process reinforces our shared commitment to academic quality and reflective teaching practice. Learn more about the dates of your SFQ, how to add custom questions, and much more from the Innovative Learning SFQ Date Tool here.

When can I view the response rate for my class’s SFQs?

When your SFQ is live, you’ll receive automated updates about student participation rates to help you gauge engagement and send additional encouragement as needed. Remember, you can check when your SFQ dates are by checking the Innovative Learning SFQ Date Tool.
Typically, reminders are sent out once a week, every week that the SFQ is running in your course. In a 14-week course, your SFQ typically starts in Week 10. At the beginning of Week 11, or on day 6 after SFQ begins, you will receive your first response rate report via your Humber email. On day 13 after the SFQ begins in your course, or at the beginning of Week 12 for a 14-week course, you will receive the second response rate report via your Humber email.

How do I view the response rate for my class’s SFQs?

Please Note: While you can see how many students have participated, you cannot access the actual feedback responses until after the SFQ period closes. This ensures the integrity of the feedback process and maintains student confidentiality during the active collection period.

What can I do to increase the response rate for my class’s SFQs?

If you notice that participating in the SFQ is low in a course, Innovative Learning recommends setting aside 20 minutes of class time to encourage student completion, and to post this announcement to Blackboard:
  • “As part of the focus on improving the student course experience at Humber Polytechnic, we are seeking your feedback on the courses in which you are currently enrolled. We believe this feedback will help us better understand the student learning experience. Your feedback is extremely important and we appreciate you taking the time to complete the SFQ. Please note that your responses and comments are anonymous. With each completed SFQ, you will also be invited to enter a prize draw; once you submit your SFQ, an invitation to enter the draw will be sent to your email.”
Some students are not aware of how the SFQ works, or what it is. Please consider sharing this video link, created by Innovative Learning, with your students, too: Your Voice Matters – Understanding the Student Feedback Questionnaire.mp4
