I was fresh out of high school and had no clue what I wanted to do! The thought was – head to post-secondary and take general studies. For me, I wanted to pursue my interests while I work out the why I want to go to school. My interest was backpacking, so I trekked off to Europe for a ‘gap year’ which ended up being three years long. Travel became an education in itself and it gave me the opportunity to learn about both myself and other parts of the world.
Traveling taught me how to engage different personalities and nationalities, how to be more independent, and how to survive in new situations. Exploring Europe definitely forced me to take self-responsibility and gave me direction in what career suits my personality with these new developed skills I acquired in three years. After solidifying my industry in Events, I knew my search was back in Canada where I found Humber.
When I am asked "why did you choose your college”? The answer is networking, because it is a small world after all. I picked Humber College because I wanted smaller class sizes and the chance to establish close relationships with other students and my professors. I thrive in a collaborative environment, and during the time I’ve spent here, I’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to engage. Not only other like-minded students but with my professors who are still in the industry bringing up to date knowledge to the classroom.
Humber strives to meet and exceed the needs of all students. The networking in my program is building lasting, mutually beneficial, and professional relationships. These relationships will help you get connected, discover opportunities and move forward. When I graduate in 2020, I feel confident that obtaining employment in the event industry will be assured. Humber is the best choice for me!
