Irelyne - Journalism Degree

Growing up, I always had a passion for writing but never knew how I could exactly implement it into my career path. I always wanted the ability to tell important stories that need to be heard but never knew how I could put this plan into action.

I soon realized after intensive research that becoming a journalist would be my dream job but then struggled with the decision of how exactly to achieve my dream. One of the biggest problems that I faced was the fact that I always thought that I would attend university. With this in mind, I didn’t want to rule out any other options that were available to me. At this point, I wasn’t even aware that Humber offered degree programs. When I found this out, I decided to check Humber out.

I attended a campus tour and got the opportunity to meet some of the faculty from the Journalism program. On top of this, I was shown hands on learning spaces that I would be working in. I was also informed that many of my teachers would also be working in the industry, allowing them to give insight on current infrastructure in the field of journalism.

This then made my journey to Humber a very easy decision. I was scared to move from my small town to the big city, but Humber Residence welcomed me with open arms. It allowed me to meet new friends and comfortably live in an inviting and accessible environment.

Humber has given me a platform for my voice to be heard. I have received so many amazing opportunities that I never thought I would get the chance to experience. Humber is allowing me the chance to turn my dream of becoming a journalist, into a reality.
