Mushfiq - Paralegal Studies Degree

I was raised from a very young age to value hard work and professional ethics. I went right into the work-force straight away from high school. Before I even graduated I was already working on a part-time basis. I spent the better part of the next decade working in the private security industry. During the course of my time at work, I have had the honour and pleasure of serving at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto College Park, and The Manulife Centre alongside numerous decorated officers. I was worried I might have reached a plateau. This is when I discovered Humber.

I was looking at the two-year Police Foundations programs, at various post-secondary institutions and exploring the future career options they might open for me. My search led me to discover the Bachelor of Social Science: Criminal Justice program at Humber. I did not know that you could complete an honours degree at an Ontario College. Upon further investigation of the diverse four-year bachelor degrees which are offered at Humber my research was pleasantly rewarded. The Bachelor of Applied Arts: Paralegal Studies program was exactly what I was actually looking for to take my professional development to the next level.

I was nervous about going back to school as a mature student. Lucky for me Humber had my back at every step of the way. I met two wonderful colleagues at orientation. Each would continue to support me for years to follow. The First Year Experience peer mentorship program helped me transition into the post-secondary lifestyle. My peer mentor introduced me to the magical world of Moot Court Competitions. Humber made meeting new people with a shared desire for success feel natural. A friendly community plus a calendar full of events made sure there was rarely ever a dull moment.

I am starting my fourth and final year. My part-time job on campus will always be the single most rewarding component of my post-secondary experience at Humber. This opportunity allowed me to continue to hone my work ethics as I prepared to take my first leap into my new industry. Every one of my professors has helped to bridge that gap by sharing their unique journey from the classroom to the field and back with me through their lectures, discussions, and feedback. The work placement opportunity takes experiential learning to a whole new level. I will always be Humber proud!
