My parents were the first feminists in my life. They encouraged their two daughters to be anything they wanted to be. I celebrate and acknowledge International Women’s Day as a daughter; as a mother of a teenage daughter interested and thriving in STEM education; as a colleague and friend to many women who are trailblazing in their chosen fields; and as a leader appointed as the first woman President of Humber.

February is Inclusive Education Month in Canada, and over the past weeks, I have been reflecting on what I have observed at Humber in my first six months, and my own personal commitment to creating inclusive spaces and experiences.

Inclusion is a principle we strive to embed in every aspect of what we do at Humber College. It is integral to our  Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Framework and Strategy that is helping to shape the College and its future.

This week marks the start of Black History Month. It is a dedicated time to reflect on the successes and tremendous impact of Black people in every facet of society. It is also a time to critically examine the links of historical injustices to the current and ongoing violence and trauma that stems from systemic racism.
