Original Piece
I have always been inspired by 50s and 60s commercial art. Cereal boxes in particular, as they were an art form of their own. I took inspiration from the cereal boxes Norman Rockwell illustrated in the 50s, and from the old western craze that occurred during that time. Those boxes today are pretty rare to get your hands on, and if you were lucky enough to inherit it, you would be able to sell it at auction for a pretty penny. When creating this piece, I thought to myself about misprints and how some of them are extremely valuable. If you look closely at this piece, you would notice the way "Willikers" is spelled at the top is different from the way it's spelled at the bottom. This was intentional, and I wanted to show the beauty of the error or the needle in the haystack shall I say. In terms of creating this piece, I wanted to see if I could create an original 1950s snack sized cereal box by replicating the methods used by illustrators in the 50s. From the ideation process to the illustration process to the printing process.
