Humber Music Presents JAZZ NIGHT on Thursday, November 21, 2024, kicking off the first of the 24-25 season's Student Showcase Concerts series. This concert will feature two Humber Music Student Ensembles: Jazz Collective and the Humber Jazz Big Band.

Audiences will be treated to an evening of music ranging from contemporary compositions to recognizable classics. The Jazz Collective is comprised of Humber student musicians skilled in both jazz performance and composition, and focusses on developing original repertoire.

This ensemble is made up of strong musicians focused on deepening their improvisational skills while finding their own voices as composers. Led by Sam Dickinson, these musicians bring professionalism and polish to every performance. The Humber Jazz Big Band, directed by trombonist, composer and bandleader Christian Overton, comprised of 18 skilled student musicians, is one of the largest ensembles in the Bachelor of Music program. Their ambitious program will take listeners through straight ahead big band jazz to video game music, from classics of the Basie band and the Boss Brass to new Canadian compositions. From the intellectual to the soulful, there is something for every jazz fan played by some of Humber’s finest young talent.
