Prompting Creativity: Multimodality and Generative AI

Generative AI has expanded our contemporary understanding of the possibilities of machine-enabled creativity. Yet art has worked with technology since its origin. What differences define this historical moment? Will art and technology become inseparable? Will human artists be rendered obsolete? AI’s recent multimodal forms of generativity (e.g., image + text) will be explored as a window onto art’s potential futures. What can the history of human creativity tell us about its machinic future?
