Humber Music Presents "R&B NIGHT," for its Student Showcase Concerts Series. Three Humber Music Ensembles will be featured - the R&B Ensemble, Rhythm ‘n Soul, and Future Pop Ensemble - treating audiences to an evening of groove, blues and soul.
Directed by Jonathan Kay, the R&B Ensemble will open the evening concert. This ensemble explores the traditional roots of classic rhythm and blues as it emerged from African American communities between the 1940s and 1970s and traces its evolution through the Neo-Soul movement into contemporary forms of R'n'B at the intersections of soul and hip-hop.
Next on the program, the Future Pop Ensemble, directed by Thomas Francis will follow. This large ensemble blending Contemporary Pop, R&B, and dance music with jazz aesthetics and post-funk sounds, delivers a fusion of modern music and innovation. Their performance will explore the dynamic intersection of genre and creativity, offering fresh, energetic interpretations of contemporary styles.
Rounding off the evening, the Rhythm ‘n Soul Ensemble, directed by Will Jarvis will bring the exciting energy of a dynamic twelve-piece band as it blends rhythm and blues with contemporary funk and soul music. The four-part vocals and classic trio of trumpet, saxophone and trombone contribute to the great depth and richness this ensemble brings to original arrangements by instructor Will Jarvis of classic R&B, Funk and Soul.
