TORONTO, ONTARIO – Humber College welcomes the provincial government's announcement of an approximately $1.3 billion investment in the Ontario post-secondary sector over the next three years. This is a critical investment for Humber and all post-secondary institutions in Ontario.
The announcement includes the government’s intent to allow colleges to offer applied master’s degrees, an initiative aimed at aligning graduate education with industry demands. The focus will be on fields crucial for economic development, including Advanced Manufacturing, AI and Animation.
"With the ability to offer Applied Master's programs, Humber will be supporting the provincial economy by preparing students with the skills they need to be industry-ready," said Ann Marie Vaughan, President and CEO, Humber College. "This kind of graduate degree is in demand by many of Humber's employer partners, especially those in the advanced manufacturing sector. We will now be able to respond and support Ontario's continued competitiveness in attracting and retaining investment and talent."
Last November, the province’s Blue Ribbon Panel released a report laying out several recommendations to the province to alleviate the financial challenges that many colleges and universities across the province are experiencing.
“Today’s announcement by the government is a great first step in bolstering the financial sustainability of Ontario’s post-secondary sector,” said Vaughan. “Humber is looking forward to continuing to work with our industry partners and the province to equip students and learners with the skills they need to lead and innovate in their future careers.”
This new funding will strengthen Humber’s financial position and ensure learners have access to the education they need to succeed in their future careers.
