Humber was named Highly Commended in the Creating Impact category at the 2025 International Green Gown Awards. Humber was recognized for its Green Building Standards, which is a framework that sets stringent sustainability requirements for all new construction and renovation projects on campus.

Developed through a collaboration between Capital Development & Facilities Management and the Office of Sustainability, the standards go beyond existing building regulations by mandating zero-carbon design, electrification and occupant health and wellness features across every project scale. This initiative ensures every new space at Humber contributes directly to the institution’s sustainability and net-zero emissions goals while also focusing on resilience for the future.

What makes Humber’s work particularly notable is its open, scalable design. The Humber Green Building Standards were intentionally created as a publicly available resource that can be adapted to any organization or sector. The framework helps others raise the bar on sustainable design and construction, accelerating collective progress toward a low-carbon future.

“Being recognized among global leaders in sustainability reinforces that our work at Humber is making a real and measurable impact,” said Lindsay Walker, Humber’s director of Sustainability. “The Green Building Standards are not just about improving our own campuses as they were designed to be open and adaptable so that any organization can use them to accelerate their transition to a low-carbon future. We’re proud to contribute solutions that move the entire sector forward.”

In addition, Humber was also included in the The Princeton Review Guide to Green Colleges: 2026 Edition. It’s a free online resource the company has published since 2010 for post-secondary applicants interested in attending schools that practice and promote environmental responsibility. The organization analyzed more than 25 data points derived from its survey of college administrators at 401 institutions and of students attending those schools. Using that data, its editors tallied Green Ratings for the schools on a scale of 60 to 99. Institutions that made this edition of the guide have Green Rating scores of 80 or above.

Earlier this year, Humber was named one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for the 10th consecutive year.

The recognition and awards demonstrate Humber’s leadership among a global network of institutions that are driving the future of sustainable buildings and its role in the transition to a low-carbon future.
