The nominees for the JUNO Awards have been announced and there are a slew of Humber College connections among them.
The 53rd annual JUNO Awards happen March 24 in Halifax and are an annual celebration of the best of Canadian music.
At this year’s JUNOs, several Humber alumni and people connected to the College’s Music and Acting programs have been nominated.
Group of the Year
Arkells – Humber Music (Keyboard) alumnus Anthony Carone is a member of the band.
Walk Off the Earth – Humber Introduction to Commercial Jazz Music alumnus Joel Cassady is a member of the band.
Jack Richardson Producer of the Year
Hill Kourkoutis is the 2024 Bachelor of Music Producer in Residence.
Alternative Album of the Year
To Learn by Leith Ross – Ross is a Bachelor of Music (Voice) program graduate.
Vocal Jazz Album of the Year
Songwriter by Alex Bird and Ewen Farncombe – Bird is a Humber Acting for Film and Television alumnus and Farncombe is a Humber Bachelor of Music alumnus.
You’re Alike, You Two by Caity Gyorgy and Mark Limacher – Gyorgy is a Humber Bachelor of Music alumna.
Your Requests by Laila Biali – Biali is a Humber Music (Keyboard) alumna.
Little Bit a’ Love by Denielle Bassels – Bassels is a Humber Introduction to Commercial Jazz Music (Vocal) and Bachelor of Music (Vocal) alumna.
Jazz Album of the Year (Solo)
Sonic Bouquet by Jocelyn Gould – Gould is a former Humber Bachelor of Music professor.
Jazz Album of the Year (Group)
Migrations by Allison Au with the Migrations Ensemble – Au is a Humber Music (Woodwind) alumna. The Migrations Ensemble includes Humber Bachelor of Music professors Jon Maharaj, Michael Davidson, and Aline Homzy, and Humber Music alumni Todd Pentney, Fabio Ragnelli, and Biali.
Cry Me A River by Hilario Duran and His Latin Jazz Big Band – Duran is a Humber Bachelor of Music professor.
Convergence by Nick Maclean Quartet featuring Brownman Ali – Maclean is a Humber Bachelor of Music alumnus.
TikTok JUNO Fan Choice
Walk Off the Earth – Humber Introduction to Commercial Jazz Music alumnus Cassady is a member of the band.
The awards show will be broadcast live on CBC.
