Through the changes and challenges of the past few weeks as the world responds to the COVID-19 pandemic, staff and faculty at Humber College have remained committed to the success and safety of the college’s students.
All campuses are closed indefinitely, and Humber is monitoring the situation and providing regular updates to the community on www.humber.ca/updates.
Critical academic and student services updates were sent to students this week.
“While classes were cancelled this week, we have been working to determine how best to support students to successfully complete their term,” said Jason Hunter, vice-president, Students and Institutional Planning.
Humber professors and academic administrators have developed academic completion plans to enable students to complete their Winter 2020 semester. Along with content to be covered in courses and any changes to assessments, the plans identify how students will be required to complete outstanding course requirements and information related to the completion of work-integrated-learning.
To practice social distancing and limit the number of people on campus, Humber classes will be offered remotely when they resume on March 23. Remote learning will continue until the end of the semester on April 17.
“We know that this isn’t the way that any of us expected the semester to end,” said Laurie Rancourt, senior vice-president, Academic. “We will make every effort to ensure that students are able to complete their studies successfully and are supported along the way.”
Humber is working to ensure academic completion plans will allow students in the final semester of their programs to meet graduation requirements in order to graduate on time. 
Humber is also offering solutions to students who require lab access to fulfill specific learning outcomes. Depending on the program, the work can occur in subsequent semesters, be delivered through faculty-led online learning or through other appropriate means.
In the case where a student may not have access to the technology now required for their classes, the college advises them to contact their program coordinator.
Colleges in Ontario continue to have discussions with the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development. Students in apprenticeship programs will be updated about the in-class portion for their studies as soon as possible.
Moving Forward
Humber is also planning for the upcoming Spring/Summer semester. Registration begins on Monday, March 30, 2020. The semester will commence on Tuesday, May 19, 2020, and conclude on Friday, August 14, 2020.
“While we all look forward to the day when we can resume our regular college activities, we know that the Humber community is resilient, and we will get through this time together.” said Rancourt.
