New students come to Humber from a wide variety of backgrounds, cultures and experiences, and the Orientation team meets them where they are.
“We try to embed Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) practices in Orientation by taking a holistic approach, knowing that people come from different places. We hone in on how we can bridge connections to students through different resources on campus,” said Kimberly Daniels, orientation & student life programs coordinator.
Orientation participants have a full calendar of events to choose from, including workshops, mixers and mentoring.
The Orientation website is a hub for new students and includes pre-recorded digital workshops and other key information. The Orientation team has also posted a Welcome Video that highlights student voices and the strength of Humber’s EDI practices.
Here are a few important Orientation dates:
- Monday, May 3: Orientation Mix & Mingle – At this virtual event, students can meet their Senior Orientation Leaders and explore various activities like virtual games, a cooking class, music and a Q&A in breakout rooms.
- Tuesday, May 4 and Wednesday, May 5: Meet Your Faculty Sessions - Part of Academic Orientation, the popular sessions are conducted through Blackboard Collaborate. Two Orientation volunteers will introduce each session and help faculty members run their session. Students will get a chance to hear from their respective faculties and ask the volunteers about their own academic experience.
- Monday, May 10 – Friday, July 16: Calendar of Events – In collaborating with campus faculties and partners, Orientation is hosting events where students can connect with new peers and Humber staff and students.
Most students will be learning online. Get ready for the virtual classroom with Orientation and the Open Learning Centre
