TORONTO, ONTARIO – For the first time, Humber College’s Lakeshore Campus will host Nuit Blanche as the celebration of contemporary art expands to become a city-wide event. The sixteenth edition of the all-night event returns on October 1 and will be the most expansive to date featuring the artwork of more than 150 artists.
“Nuit Blanche is a chance for residents to explore their community in new ways. These art displays allow us to enjoy and celebrate culture, diversity, and inclusiveness – all concepts Humber truly values,” said Kelly Jackson, vice-president of External Affairs and Professional Learning. “Humber shares a strong commitment to the arts and is an incubator for creative and innovative expressions.”
Humber College has a deep connection to the local arts scene. Since 2019, the “Campus as a Canvas” initiative has been a guiding principle for the Humber Galleries and taken on a life of its own across the College. With many talented students and faculty, Humber integrated the entirety of its campuses as a display space to showcase their work. Nuit Blanche 2022 is another opportunity to display artists’ voices on Humber’s Lakeshore campus.

This year’s Nuit Blanche theme is ‘The Space between us.’ This curatorial theme invites artists to build bridges between cultures, communities and the environment and to transform the city by telling stories about their connection to place. It includes exploring shared experiences through Black, Indigenous, and people of colour (BIPOC) communities globally and amplifying local voices in the international dialogue of art. Exhibits will be featured in Etobicoke, North York, Scarborough, Don Mills, East Danforth, Bloor-Yorkville, Downtown, Sterling Road, West Queen West and Fort York.
In the years to come, Humber’s Lakeshore Campus will be a leading destination for the arts outside of Toronto’s downtown core with the construction of the Humber Cultural Hub. The Hub will have world-class, technology-rich teaching and performance spaces, including a 500-seat Performance Hall, 140-seat Recital Hall, and professional-quality music, film, TV, multimedia equipment and training facilities. The Humber Cultural Hub will inspire creativity, support a connected community, and encourage public appreciation of the arts.
