Athlete enrols in Fitness and Health Promotion program to reach nutrition and fitness goals

It’s show day. Leanna Coletti and other athletes are backstage, waiting for their division and class to be called onto the stage. She’s surrounded by bodies that are tanned and glammed up. She sees copious amounts of plain rice cakes, jam, peanut butter, and salt. They act as a fast-acting carb source to help achieve a full look in the muscles before stepping on stage for judging. Coletti patiently and nervously waits. She reflects on her seven months of preparation for her 30-second moment to convince the judges she deserves to be top three.

It was the best time of Carla Aquino’s life after she arrived in Canada to study in Humber College’s Fitness and Health Promotion program.

Aquino moved to the GTA from the Dominican Republic to enrol at Humber – she was very interested in the experiential learning that the college and program offered after having previously received her personal trainer certification through an online course.
