Dear students,
You will have heard by now that all full-time support staff at all 24 Ontario Polytechnics and colleges, including at Humber, are on strike.
All classes will continue and any changes to delivery will be communicated by faculty through email and Blackboard. Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) classes and the Real Estate program will also continue. University of Guelph-Humber courses will run with any delivery changes communicated directly. Any changes to online delivery will return to in person delivery at the conclusion of the strike.
Please note that placements and work study activities will continue with limited exceptions that would be communicated directly. I’d like to remind you to contact your program directly regarding the status of co-op, clinical and field placement activity should you have questions.
Any student employees should contact their manager to learn of any impact the strike may have on their upcoming schedule and duties.
Please allow yourself extra time when coming to campus during the strike. Please also familiarize yourself with the Picket Line Guidelines for information on how to respectfully and peacefully move through any picket lines.
While we are unable to predict how long the strike may last, academic progress will continue, and we will ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve their learning goals in a timely manner. To date, no Ontario college student has ever lost a year because of a strike.
I’d like to assure you that your success remains our top priority. Humber and University of Guelph-Humber campuses and locations will be open, and you are welcome to use our facilities, and student supports and services during the strike.
A list of open and operating services can be found on www.humber.ca/updates along with regular updates and frequently asked questions.
Students who are experiencing mental health challenges may use the following resources for support throughout the strike:
I encourage you to contact your Senior or Associate Dean if you have any program-specific questions.
We will update the website and our social media channels with new developments as they happen. I recognize that this is a frustrating time for our whole community, and I thank you for your patience. We are hopeful that the strike will end quickly.
Sincerely,
Ann Marie Vaughan
