Student Services Updates

Humber is prioritizing services that are critical to student success and enrollment for the duration of the labour disruption. Wait times for responses and service modalities may differ from normal practices. Thank you for your patience.

  • Both North and Lakeshore Campus Fitness facilities remain open.
  • Humber Hawks Varsity Sports will continue.
  • Check out www.humberhawks.ca for updated fitness centre hours of operations and varsity game schedules

Limited services will be available at the North Campus only. For more information, contact swac@humber.ca.

During the strike period, Humber Downtown Campus will remain open with service hours Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

Humber Downtown students will continue to have access to a wide range of support services, including:  

  • Student Success Hub – guidance on course registration, fees, second program applications, and general student success.  
  • Student success, academic, and registration advising.  
  • Learning support services – math and writing help, and peer tutoring.  
  • Career and Employment (ICHub) – résumé reviews, interview preparation, employability skills, workshops, and recruitment events.  
  • Tech support – through the Humber Downtown Tech Zone.  
  • The Idea Lab – open Monday to Friday, 12:30–4:00 p.m.  
  • Counselling services and access to community supports such as Good2Talk.  
  • Alumo/MorCare support (in person and virtual) -drop-in advising every other Wednesday.  
  • Health & Dental Insurance Plan (IGNITE).  
  • TMU sports facilities – available to students with a valid membership (see the Toronto Metropolitan University Recreation Sign-up Guide for details).  

Humber Downtown students are encouraged to use the “Ask a Question” feature in the MyIGS portal for the quickest response. Through the portal, students can also: 

  • Book appointments with career advisors and job developers  
  • View upcoming events and programming  
  • Access information pages 

For questions specific to Humber (such as admissions or program details), please continue to contact Humber directly.

Important note for International Students: Humber will not be able to provide in-person and virtual immigration advising during the strike but as a Humber student, you have access to free or low-cost immigration services through BorderPass. 

International students can access support through BorderPass, Humber’s immigration advising partner. BorderPass provides assistance with study permits, work permits (including PGWP), visas, status questions, attestation letters, and other immigration-related matters. 

Humber’s International Centre will not be able to provide in-person and virtual immigration advising to international students during the strike but as a Humber student, you have access to free or low-cost immigration services through BorderPass. 

Students can access support through BorderPass, Humber’s immigration advising partner. BorderPass provides assistance with study permits, work permits (including PGWP), visas, status questions, attestation letters, and other immigration-related matters. 

Getting started with BorderPass: 

  1. Go to borderpass.ai and select “Get Started”.
  2. Sign up using your institution (choose Humber Polytechnic) and your Student ID.
  3. Once logged in, select “Explore BorderPass” to access services.
  4. Use the BorderPass Assistant chatbot (bottom right corner of the page) to ask questions 24/7.
  5. If your question requires a person, the chatbot will create a support ticket. A BorderPass advisor will reply by email within 1 business day (Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. ET).

The Indigenous Education and Engagement Centre hours remain 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. Any changes will be communicated through their social channels.

North and Lakeshore Campuses

During the strike period, the International Centre offices at North and Lakeshore campuses will remain open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. 

Services that will continue without impact: 

  • International Customer Service support – help with applications, payments, and registration challenges (including study permit holds). 
  • Alumo/MorCare health insurance support (in person and virtual). 
  • Inbound and outbound exchange student support. 
  • International Student Recruitment (out of country activities). 
  • International Development Institute and Humber Global Academy operations. 

Services that will be suspended or impacted: 

  • In-person and virtual International Student Advisor (ISA) appointments – suspended until further notice. 
  • Responses to Study Permit-related Contact Form submissions – suspended or delayed, depending on the case. 
  • On-campus International Student Recruitment activities – possibly impacted. 
  • On-campus visits and delegations – possibly impacted.

North Learning Commons

Hours: Open same as building hours, unstaffed

Services Available:

  • Desktop computers available
  • Plugs and WiFi available for students with laptops
  • 11 bookable study rooms
  • Printers (with copying & scanning capabilities)
  • Bookable virtual research support appointments with Librarians
  • Digital collections available 24/7 via library website

Lakeshore Learning Commons

Hours: Open same as building hours; staffed 10am to 6pm, Monday - Friday

Services Available:

  • Desktop computers available
  • Plugs and WiFi available for students with laptops
  • Five bookable study rooms
  • Printers (with copying & scanning capabilities)
  • Bookable virtual research support appointments with Librarians
  • Print collections access (24/7 via Book Lending Machine; Closed Stacks from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday – Friday)
  • Digital collections available 24/7 via library website
  • Mental Health and Counselling Services remain available.
  • Hybrid options available – in person appointments will take place at North Campus only.
  • Starting September 15: After-Hours Mental Health Support, Crisis Support and Referrals by the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) - Monday – Friday, 5-10 PM
    • North Campus: LRC Building, 3rd Floor
    • Lakeshore Campus: L Building, 1st Floor

There are no changes to parking services.

The North Campus Welcome Desk is open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The Office of Student Community Standards manages complaints about non-academic student behaviour. If you would like to file a formal complaint under the Code of Student Community Standards Policy, request an incident review or consult about a matter without lodging a formal complaint:

  • Email: OSCS@humber.ca or
  • Submit an Online Incident Report, or
  • Call us at 437-565-1365

If you have a complaint about a staff member or instructor, you should speak with their direct supervisor (Associate Dean, Manager of the service, etc.).

If you are concerned about a student's well-being, please contact the Care Coordinators at 437-565-1366 or email CARE@humber.ca.

Humber Residences are open and students may remain in their rooms as usual. There may be additional wait times for some services.

  • Notetaking services (Habitat Learn) will be available for students. Email notetaking@humber.ca for registration or support.
  • The Math and Writing Centers will be open at the North and Lakeshore campuses.
  • Learning Skills Workshops will continue to run online.

The Test Centre at the North and Lakeshore campuses will prioritize service for accommodated students, who have pre-approved accommodations.

This will begin effective September 11, 2025. Find below the test centre hours:
