New Grad Resources

Congratulations and Welcome to our Alumni Family!

The end of one journey is the start of another. You came to Humber to acquire the necessary skills to succeed in your field of choice. Now you join a talented and diverse network of over 300,000 alumni making a difference around the world.

Indigenous Medallions

Graduating students who have self-identified as Indigenous and attended the Indigenous awards gala are given medallions ahead of convocation and are asked to wear them during their ceremony to display their pride in their history and culture. The medallions acknowledge the graduates' accomplishments and underscore the importance of the tradition of gift giving to Indigenous peoples. Medallions can also be picked up from the Indigenous Education and Engagement department (IEE) if you did not receive one. Representatives from IEE will also be present during the convocation ceremonies to hand them out.

Be Prepared for the Big Day!

Seating is on a first-come first-served basis and each graduate is entitled to bring 3 guests. In the interest of all concerned, ushers will not permit seats to be held for late arriving guests or personal belongings. Convocation is the formal ceremony for the conferral of degrees, diplomas and certificates. It is a long-held tradition that commemorates the academic achievement of Humber students.

To appropriately honour the significance of the occasion and ensure the event runs smoothly, it is essential that all graduates, along with their families and friends in attendance, adhere to the following guidelines throughout the ceremony:

  • Guests and graduates to remain seated until the entire ceremony is complete, and Convocation has been officially dismissed by the Master of Ceremonies. The stage party will first exit the ballroom followed by the graduates and then all doors will be open for guests to exit. Note: any grads who leave the Ballroom before the ceremony is complete will be asked to return their gown immediately. Photo opportunities will only be available before or after the ceremony.
  • Devices to be switched off or on silent mode during the ceremony.
  • All graduates and guests to cooperate with and follow instructions from event staff.

This is your forever moment to shine and represent yourself as a proud Humber grad. All you need to make sure to bring is your name card. Humber will provide your gown and regalia and your Program Marshal and event staff will ensure you are ready to cross the stage. Before crossing the stage, we will take your name card so you can be hands free and have no distractions from that important walk to commemorate your tremendous achievement.

Items not permitted on stage:

  • Personal items or apparel such as purses, bags, valuables or jackets. You are encouraged to leave these items with your family or guests.
  • Graduates may not end up in the same seat after crossing the stage to receive their credential. We recommend that you do not bring in or leave personal items on your seat.
