Imran Ahmad is the Canadian head of our technology sector and Canadian co-head of our information governance, privacy and cybersecurity practice. He is based in our Toronto and Montreal offices and is recognized as a leading cybersecurity lawyer by several legal directories.
Imran advises clients across all industries on a wide array of technology-related matters, including outsourcing, cloud computing, SaaS, strategic alliances, technology development, system procurement and implementation, technology licensing and transfer, distribution, open-source software, and electronic commerce. As part of his cybersecurity practice, Imran works very closely with clients to develop and implement practical strategies related to cyber threats and data breaches. He advises on legal risk assessments, compliance, due diligence and risk allocation advice, security, and data breach incident preparedness and response.
In addition, Imran often acts as "breach counsel" in the event of a cybersecurity incident, such as a data or privacy breach, and has extensive experience in managing complex security incidents and cross-border breaches. Francis Syms is a senior industry professional and educator in cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and risk management. He is an inventor of a patented secure messaging platform and has spent years working in various roles at telecommunication, hardware development, and software development companies. He is Associate Dean in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology at Humber and is regularly interviewed by the media (including CBC and CTV) on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and related technologies. In 2023, he joined CADSI (the Canadian Association of Defense and Security Industries), which advises the Canadian government. Francis holds a BASc in Electrical Engineering from Dalhousie University and a MASc from the University of Toronto Graduate Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering. His certifications include the Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) from the Professional Engineers of Ontario and the Project Management Professional (PMP) from the Project Management Institute. He is also the author of the post-secondary textbook: Cybersecurity in Canada: Operations, Investigations, and Protection.

Moderated by Humber’s inaugural Vice President, Inclusion and Belonging, Jason Seright, we heard from exceptional leaders in the field, Delany Satheeswaran, Karen Craggs-Milne, Rianna D'Silva, CHRL and Shalise Goffe, CPDS who spoke about what their organizations are doing to support the important work of equity, diversity and inclusion to build better workplaces for all. The session was both informative and thought-provoking with participants engaging in discussion well into the evening.
On Tuesday June 28th, 2022 the Humber IGS hosted the second in the EnVision the Future World of Work event series and the first hybrid event. Recognizing that the pandemic disproportionally impacted marginalized communities, especially impacting women in the workforce across sectors, the session brought together three exceptional leaders speaking to the specific challenges facing women in different fields as we move past the pandemic and into a new era of work. Moderated by Humber’s Senior Vice-President, Academic, Dr. Gina Antonacci and featured panelists Andrea Spender, CEO of The Prosperity Project, Monika Tamber, director, Security Governance with Payments Canada, and Zenia Wadhwani, executive director of the Woodbine Cares Foundation. Participants left the session with specific strategies for corporations, industries, and organizations to consider as we move to rebuild economies. On Thursday February 3rd, the Humber IGS through the Industry and Community Connector Hub (ICHub) launched their first in a series of events examining the future world of work as we move beyond the pandemic. The session explored mutually beneficial partnership opportunities to support post-pandemic recovery with a focus on workplace transformation, culture, innovation, digital workplace, and learning & development. Facilitated by Humber’s Dean of Research and Innovation, Dr. Ginger Grant, participants participated in a survey identifying key challenges and opportunities coming out of the pandemic and then engaged in meaningful discussion identifying key areas of opportunities to work together with industry to chart the path forward.
