Mehmet Kaan Madranefe

Mehmet Kaan Madranefe

Mehmet Kaan Madranefe is a graduate of mechanical engineering pursuing the Global Business Management program at Humber's International Graduate School (IGS).

He has a bachelor’s degree from Turkey and arrived in Canada following his graduation in 2020. His main motivation to move to Canada was the business education he wanted to add to his educational background. For him, Canada and especially Humber College seemed to be the best choice to pursue this goal. “As a growing economy, Canada’s business environment offers many opportunities for international students. And it is an exceptionally welcoming country.”

Currently, as a part of his program, he is working as an intern at one of the top manufacturing companies in Canada. He eventually wants to work in the robotics and automation industry and sees Canada soon being one of the leading countries in the sector.

Humber College has assisted him to achieve his goals to date. On top of the hands-on educational environment that helped him gain practical tools for his career, find his first job in Canada, adapt himself to the business world, and gain sector insights, his professors and career advisors at the IGS campus have always supported him.

“Whatever I have achieved was the result of my hard work, but I wouldn’t be able to achieve them in such a way without the orchestra of people who were willing to help to pave the road with me.”

Today, he thinks that the Global Business Management program at Humber College is a highly satisfactory choice for anyone that wants to advance in business and have a realistic skill set for the market.

Quincy Norman Vaz

Quincy Norman Vaz

Quincy Norman Vaz is currently enrolled in the Research Analyst program at Humber College’s International Graduate Campus (IGS).

Her program started in January 2022, and she is expected to graduate in winter 2023. As part of her program, Qunicy is completing a 5-month work placement at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH).

Qunicy spent the first 18 years of her life growing up in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. After graduating from high school, her passion for medicine and healthcare led her to join medical school in Mumbai, India, where she continued her medical training for 6 years. She graduated in 2020, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. What struck her the most about the pandemic was how essential research and development is to enhancing health outcomes. As a physician, she felt helpless in the face of crisis due to the dwindling resources and lack of treatment options. This epiphany, coupled with foundational knowledge of research methodology from her medical school days led her to explore options for postgraduate medical education in healthcare research.

During her search, she came across Humber College’s postgraduate certificate programs. The Research Analyst program turned out to be research-intensive, with an exceptionally structured academic curriculum that matches her educational goals. Combined with a work placement as a requirement to graduate, this program complemented her existing academic and clinical experience, which she believes has developed her professional proficiency to enter a career in healthcare or clinical research.

She was also enthusiastic about the fact that this program was taking place at the IGS, located in the heart of Downtown Toronto, where she has been able to interact and network with international students and faculty from different cultural and professional backgrounds, as well as develop an appreciation for Canadian culture. Through the lens of this cultural kaleidoscope, she has come to admire the nuances and opportunities for growth and learning a diverse work environment can provide.

Humber College offers a plethora of resources to prepare students to launch their careers in Canada. She was lucky to be part of the first cohort of students in their Career Mentorship Program, where she was matched to her mentor, who is a seasoned professional in the clinical research industry. Through this meaningful mentorship, he helped her draft her resume according to industry expectations and shared his professional experience within the industry. The IGS campus also delivers resume clinics and career development workshops, which she found especially helpful when she was applying for work placement opportunities. The Community and Industry Engagement Course offered to students in their first semester, provides collaborative group activities to build relationships with peers across disciplines, learn skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, communication and teamwork while working on creatively designed group assignments. She is looking forward to taking these skills into her professional career.

When she came to Toronto in January 2022, she knew no one when she got here, and had no idea what to expect. But after almost a year here, she is grateful to Humber’s IGS for all the opportunities it has provided her, and for being instrumental in her professional development.
