Welcoming Fall 2021 with open arms – and a plan

Students walk to and from C Building, one of the cottages on Lakeshore campus during autumn.

Humber is welcoming more students, staff and faculty back to campus this term.

We provided an update on health and safety measures for Fall 2021 earlier this week, and I’d like to provide you with more information on how Humber College will navigate the coming months.

Following the August 17 provincial announcement implementing requirements for vaccination policies in high-risk environments, the Humber executive team approved the introduction of a COVID-19 vaccination policy for students, employees, and visitors to the college’s campuses or facilities.

Everyone has a role to play in fostering an inclusive and safe environment. By October 18, anyone visiting campus or a Humber facility will have to provide proof of vaccination or that they have received an exemption under the new policy. Click here to read the complete statement on the new vaccination policy.

Some members of the Humber community were already required to be fully vaccinated due to the high-risk nature of their activities and settings, including varsity athletes, students in residence and those with programs with specific work-integrated learning experiences.

 Declare your vaccination status

Students and employees must complete the Return to Campus acknowledgment form by September 7, the first day of the fall term. The form will be sent by email to students and staff by the end of August.

Those seeking an exemption to the policy will receive more information on that process when the Return to Campus acknowledgement form is distributed. Humber will work with exempted individuals to find a reasonable and appropriate approach to accommodation. This may include regular rapid testing or a transition to remote learning or work, where possible.

Provide proof of vaccination

Proof of full vaccination must be provided by October 18, and we will share details about the process to do that soon. Humber is committed to ensuring that any personal health information submitted to the college will be secure and confidential.

Know what to expect when coming to campus

Many of the health and safety measures from past terms will remain in place. For example, before attending campus each day, students, faculty, staff, and visitors must still complete a daily check-In using the Humber Guardian App. This check-in is based on the provincial COVID screening.  In addition, physical distancing requirements and indoor mask-wearing will continue to be in place across our campuses and facilities.

We will continue to put health and safety at the centre of all that we do and we will continue to keep you updated as we implement our new policy

The fall term feels like a new beginning, and I hope you feel a sense of excitement and renewal, whether you're on campus or online. Welcome back, Humber.
