Connect is a frottage artwork, formed by gathering the surface textures of more than twelve household objects, using coloured pencils on rice paper. It illustrates my attempt to connect to my fish without verbal communications.
People growing up with limited spaces and resources keep small fishes, shrimps or turtles as accompanies at home, while fishes provide very limited interactions and responses.
I built undersea landscapes in my fish tank at home, using rocks, wood and fern-like plants, to express my hope to get closer and connect to the fish. I observed and paid attentions to the impacts of introducing new materials to the tank towards the health of the fish.
In physical world, some relationships, like elderly and caretakers, teachers and kindergarten students, are also beyond verbal expressions, but rely on the willingness of observing and being patient.
