This piece titled "The Monster In My Head" was inspired by my struggles with mental illness. I have struggled with serious mental illness from a young age, and have always envisioned having mental illness like having a monster living in your head. The monster painted in this artwork is composed of a variety of different things, such as ears, eyes, colours, teeth and noses. Each of these things represent a different emotion/illness. For example, the teeth represent the pain felt after losing someone important, and the bulging eyes shown represent the insufferable anxiety felt at the worst times. The background of this painting is made of black and white lines and swirls, which represents the dull thoughts that are constantly moving around in the back of my head. Living with mental illness is a constant struggle, and the monsters and demons that live in my head will always taunt me, but I am able to overcome it by expressing my feelings through art. In conclusion, this piece was inspired by my own struggles, and the "monster" that lives in my head.
