This artwork is a portrait of a woman with her chin resting on her fingertips, facing the viewer with a serious look on her face. I wanted to study underpainting with gouache paint, so I intentionally left parts of the portrait with some of the original underpainting still showing through. The portrait is inspired by old photographs, I used mostly brown tones for the subject to convey that, with a nice contrasting blue to give it a bit of life. This lady looks like she would be named Mathilde so I have named her accordingly.
