Art Description (What inspired you to create the artwork?) | This painting is about the shame that women feel in relation to their bodies. As a woman myself I have gone through many phases of inadequacy, body dysmorphia, and other traumatic instances that have affected my overall self esteem and confidence. Within the figure there are two faces, the inner face represents the wounded inner child, and the outer face represents the adult woman that tries to be strong but is still wounded herself. She lays in a fetal position to self-soothe. Her bed is one of the only places where she feels truly safe. The shadow of the hand symbolizes shame looming over her and the red is up for interpretation. |
