It is drawn from a photo I took of my brother at the time and represents an innocence and the easy-going friendship that we both share shared in early adolescence. His gaze at me is open and familiar. Our lives are a bit more complicated now, as is our relationship, as we move into young adulthood. One of the best parts about portraiture is the constant back-and-forth connection between the subject and the drawing. Like a brother and sister growing up together, it is a tight bond, for a short time.
