Art Description (What inspired you to create the artwork?) | Film has always been an inspiration for my photography, especially that of the works of Wes Anderson. On one of our camping trips, my friends and I decided to hang out at the site. Two friends pulled out a chess board, and a narrative in my head began playing out as they started the game. I wanted to create the images from the perspective of an intensive chess game, cinematically and focusing on gesture, lines, and composition. I began shooting as if I was shooting stills on the set of an ongoing film. This shoot turned into a series of photos called "It's Your Move." Although, this one in particular has remained a favourite of mine and will always be. Chess is also a game I grew up playing and where I learnt to be strategic and competitive, so I was looking forward to seeing this vision through. |
