Humber Polytechnic aligns itself with industry best practice reporting standards, including the ASSHE (Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education) Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS). This is a reporting mechanism focused on evaluating sustainability performance in all aspects of higher education. We also utilize supplementary metrics to measure our successes.

The Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System (STARS) is a transparent, self-reporting framework for colleges and universities to measure their sustainability performance administered by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) - the leading association for the advancement of sustainability in higher education. Humber reports to STARS every three years.
In October 2019, Humber re-certified with STARS 2.2 and achieved a Gold rating. We have made great strides in campus sustainability since our first report in 2013.

Humber’s Annual Waste Audit examines representative samples of waste materials from various functional areas on campus to gain an understanding of the quantities and composition of solid non‐hazardous wastes generated. Humber engages a third party to conduct these audits annually.
Humber's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventory follows the reporting requirements of The Climate Registry (TCR).
