TORONTO, ON – April 16, 2019 – Humber  College and Longo’s have partnered to elevate the user experience of Grocery Gateway customers.

The partnership will involve Humber’s User Experience Design Program (“UX”), which attracts students from across the country and has a reputation for developing solutions to some of the most pressing problems facing companies today, including technological feasibility. The UX program focuses on the intelligent design of various digital products from websites to apps, with the needs of the end user in mind.

Throughout the partnership, Humber students will be involved in research, development and creative think-tanks culminating in a capstone project where they will build working prototypes for Grocery Gateway. Purchased by Longo’s in 2004, Grocery Gateway is one of Canada’s largest online grocery delivery services.

“This partnership highlights Humber’s strengths in media, technology and business as we thrive on the opportunity to work directly with industry. In this case, our students will have the opportunity to assist Longo’s online grocery delivery service in moving their business forward,” said Chris Whitaker, president and CEO, Humber College. “This is an example of our ongoing commitment to offering students valuable experience, while providing our partners with fresh, innovative ideas.”

This three-year partnership follows several successful collaborations between Humber and Longo’s.

“With a clear focus on the end-user and intelligent design, we believe that the students in this program will shed light on many improvements to our interface that benefit Grocery Gateway’s current and future customers,” said Anthony Longo, president and CEO, Longo’s. “As a Humber graduate, I am incredibly proud to see the talent being harnessed at the college and to see the tangible solutions that programs like UX can deliver to businesses such as Longo’s.”

There will be several mutual benefits for both parties including competitive summer internships at Longo’s for Humber students and access to The Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation, which includes state-of-the-art User research testing facilities.

“Longo’s truly values opportunities to collaborate with students as we know it culminates in unique and mutually beneficial partnerships,” said Anthony Longo. “Working with Humber will provide students with real-time, practical experience while simultaneously generating a fresh perspective to Longo’s on a current business challenge.”

“Our UX program has been an important factor in the development of this partnership. The uniqueness of the program and usability research conducted in the college’s state-of-the-art Usability Testing Lab have benefitted Grocery Gateway’s continuous improvement process and our students through their participation in meaningful work integrated learning experiences,” said Whitaker.
