Cardiology Nursing – Clinical Practicum for the RN

Course Code: CORN 515

This experiential learning course will provide the opportunity to consolidate theory and clinical application. The focus will be on the management of patients with acute coronary health challenges. Placement will be in one or more of a variety of cardiac settings (e.g. CCU or CVICU). Students will be required to review the Competency Checklist and formulate a minimum of three learning goals based on current knowledge and areas of need. It is the expectation that students are at the novice level of competency in the specialty of coronary care nursing.

The Cardiology Nursing- RN clinical is 150 hours and must be completed within a 3-month term. Nurses are required to do two shifts weekly following their preceptor's schedule.

Step 1: Complete the Clinical Placement Request Form for the Spring term. The form opens on December 1, 2025 and will close on January 16, 2026 at 11:59 PM. Once submitted, we will review you request and follow up via email with next steps. Requests cannot be accepted after the deadline. Placement requests will be sent to hospitals in early February.

Step 2: Register and pay for the clinical course. You must be officially registered and have paid for the course to proceed with placement.

Step 3: Begin working on Health Clearance requirements immediately after submitting your Clinical Placement Request Form. These requirements can take up to three months to complete. You will receive placement details only after successfully meeting all clearance requirements.
