This experiential learning course will provide the opportunity to consolidate theory and clinical application. The focus will be on the management of patients with acute coronary health challenges. Placement will be in one or more of a variety of cardiac settings (e.g. CCU or CVICU). Students will be required to review the Competency Checklist and formulate a minimum of three learning goals based on current knowledge and areas of need. It is the expectation that students are at the novice level of competency in the specialty of coronary care nursing.
The Cardiology Nursing- RN clinical is 150 hours and must be completed within a 3-month term. Nurses are required to do two shifts weekly following their preceptor's schedule.
Step 1: Complete the Clinical Placement Request Form for the fall term. The form opens on Monday, April 28th and closes on Wednesday, June 11th. After reviewing your form, we will email you the next steps. Your placement requests will be submitted to hospitals by June 13th. Requests cannot be submitted beyond this deadline.
Step 2: Register and pay for the clinical course.
Step 3: Begin working on Health Clearance requirements immediately after submitting your Clinical Placement Request Form. These requirements can take up to three months to complete.
Note: You will receive information about your clinical placement once you successfully meet the clearance requirements.
