This year, the Humber Arboretum has been designated as a new Environmentally Significant Area (ESA) by the City of Toronto.

Environmentally Significant Areas are home to an extraordinary variety of plants and wildlife.

The Humber Arboretum is recognized in particular for its habitats for significant species-vulnerable, rare and/or threatened plant and animals. Significant species in the Humber Arboretum include 21 species of flora, 20 species of fauna, 17 bird species, 2 mammals and one amphibian.

Humber Arboretum habitat includes forest dominated by sugar maple, American beech, and red oak, with an extensive stand of white trout lily (a Carolinian species) and other spring ephemeral species.
