It is with a heavy heart that I write to notify you of the death of Carol Reid (Professor Early Childhood Education 1989-2014). Carol died at her home with her friends and family at her side, after a lengthy illness. Carol’s life will be celebrated at a private family gathering.  In lieu of flowers or other contributions, the family requests your donation be made to the Carol Reid Early Childhood Education Laboratory fund. Your contribution would be most appreciated and will support the legacy that Carol leaves behind.

Jason Powell
Dean, School of Health Sciences

Give a gift to support Early Childhood Education at Humber College and honour Carol Reid, a passionate, dedicated and creative educator.

Honour Carol Reid for her lifelong commitment and dedication to education by making a donation to the Early Childhood Education Fund.

Your gift to the Fund will provide much needed resources to enable the ECE program to offer its students and faculty valuable educational materials and teaching resources, to deliver workshops and specialized training and to provide student scholarships, bursaries and awards.

In recognition of your support, Humber College is pleased to name the ECE Lab at its North Campus after Carol, a fitting tribute to someone who made this important resource a possibility through her own efforts and support. The lab is a creative classroom complete with a one-of-a-kind ECE Resource Centre filled with educational materials, books and equipment used for in-class assignments and field practicums. A dedication plaque will be placed outside of the ECE Lab to honour Carol.

Make a difference in the lives of Humber students: Give to the Early Childhood Education Fund.

Your gift to the Early Childhood Education Fund will be acknowledged, and a charitable tax receipt* will be provided with the College’s appreciation. Donations can be made by cheque (payable to Humber College) or via credit card.

Carol Reid - ECE Educator

Carol Reid is a proud Humber graduate who began her teaching career at Humber in the Early Childhood Education program in 1989. From her first day of teaching until her retirement in 2014, Carol’s dedication to students and the community was characterized by her creativity and love of learning.

While at Humber, Carol dedicated her own time and resources to establish ECE Resource Centres at Humber and the University of Guelph-Humber so that students could benefit from using quality play materials in their training.

Outside of the classroom, Carol was committed to supporting Early Childhood Educators in the field, offering mentorship and leading workshops in various early learning centres.

Carol’s peers describe her as a complete mentor and role model and someone who always has a warm, supportive attitude.

The naming of the Carol Reid Early Childhood Education Lab is a fitting tribute to Carol’s extensive contributions to ECE and Humber College.
