Introduction to Adult Education

Course Code: IAEC 100

The Introduction to Adult Education course is comprised of four modules that introduce learners to key concepts and effective practices in adult learning. The modules will introduce adult learning theories and familiarize learners with the unique needs and characteristics of adult learners, equipping them to design, facilitate and assess adult learning effectively. They will also explore how educational technology and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) can optimize the learning experience for all adult learners.

The four modules are:

Module 1: Adult Learning

Module 2: Teaching Adult Learners

Module 3: Meaningful Assessments for Adults

Module 4: Educational Technology for Adult Learners

 

After completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify areas for professional development opportunities through reflective practice.
  • Apply adult learning theories to create effective and meaningful learning experiences.
  • Apply UDL principles to make the learning experience inclusive and engaging for adult learners.
  • Use a range of inclusive methods of teaching and assessing learning, appropriate to the learners, subject and context.  
  • Integrate educational technology that supports achievement of learning outcomes and aligns with learner needs and preferences.
