Critical Race Theory

Evolving out of Critical Race Theory, which originated within legal scholarship in the 1970s, Canadian Critical Race Theory (CCRT) recognizes anti-Indigenous racism and anti-Black racism in Canadian society.

CCRT is guided by the following tenets:

1. Racism is everywhere

2. Racism advances the interests of the dominant class

3. Lived experiences of racialized folk must be recognized and appreciated

4. CRT practitioners must work to eliminate racial injustice

5. Race and racism are endemic to Canadian society
