PASS Leaders
- Are model students at the diploma level who have taken the course before and achieved an “A”, are academically successful and are recommended by the faculty member teaching the course.
- Are trained and supervised by a Certified PASS Supervisor.
- Receive intensive PASS Leader Training before their position begins, as well as on-going training throughout the semester
- Re-attend all lectures for the course they have been assigned to.
- Develop a professional relationship with course instructors and other relevant staff and communicate with them on a regular basis.
- Are given sufficient time to properly place activities and strategies to engage students in PASS sessions.
- Are facilitators who re-direct questions, provide time for students to engage with the material and allow students the opportunity to check their understanding of class concepts and topics.
- Are not tutors, Teaching Assistants (TA), or someone who will explain concepts to students. PASS Leaders do not teach any new material, but facilitate discussion of topics previously covered in class.
- Have demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have a strong understanding of group dynamics.
Faculty Members
Professors with PASS assigned to their courses are asked to:
- Allow the PASS Leader to make weekly announcements in class regarding PASS sessions.
- Send emails to students enrolled in the course to promote PASS session attendance.
- Post the PASS session schedules in the classroom.
- Meet with the PASS Leader to review session materials and discuss class content as needed.
