Registered Nurse Diagnosing & Prescribing

Certificate of Accomplishment

Program Code: RNDP1

Program Overview

Important note:

The Registered Nurse Diagnosing and Prescribing program will be delivered via two modules and simulation experience that includes a mixed synchronous and asynchronous delivery mode and an in-person lab. Onsite labs are scheduled by the Program Advisor (Evenings). A full-time clinical placement completes the program.

Program Description

The Registered Nurse Diagnosing and Prescribing certificate program is designed for registered nurses (RNs) seeking to advance their knowledge and practice in diagnosing and prescription writing. This certification will walk learners through the theory of prescribing certain medications as set out by the CNO (College of Nurses of Ontario), types of patient assessments and follow ups.

After successful completion of the theory courses, students will move to the clinical placement. This will consist of 150 hours (6 – 12 weeks).

Application Process

Registration in this program is restricted to CNO registered nurses. All applicants must provide documentation as outlined below. Successful candidates will be offered admission into the program through the program advisor.

The June 2024 program is now open to applicants.     Apply Here

Fees

The Registered Nurse Diagnosing and Prescribing Certificate has a bundled tuition fee of $1000 for the three courses. If the government bursary becomes available during the term, eligible students will receive tuition reimbursement.

Academic Partnership with Canadian Nurses Association

As of December 2023, the new Registered Nurse Diagnosing & Prescribing at Humber College is approved by the College of Nurses of Ontario (www.cno.org). RNs who successfully complete Council approved RN-prescribing education will have information added to their registrant profile on CNO’s public Register, Find a Nurse, to communicate their authority to prescribe medications and communicate diagnoses for the purpose of prescribing specified in regulation.

Students in the RNDP certificate are expected to complete all courses within one semester. If a student withdraws from the program one week after the start date, the total program fees will be withheld. Students requesting a refund due to exceptional circumstances must apply in writing and provide supporting documentation for review.
