REB Deadlines

Review Process

Applications deemed minimal risk are delegated for review on an on-going basis. These applications can be submitted at any time during the REB's period of operation during the academic year. Minimal risk applications will take up to 10 business days to be processed and reviewed by our HREB members. Revisions and clarifications may be requested by the HREB, prior to approval being granted.

Applications deemed higher than minimal risk must be reviewed at the monthly REB meetings. Full-review applications will take up to 35 days to be processed and reviewed by our HREB. Revisions and clarifications may be requested by the HREB, prior to approval being granted. Submission deadlines for applications deemed higher than mininal risk are the first Monday of each month, with the exception of September and January when submission deadlines are the second Monday of the month. The REB does not meet in July or August.

Please note that Humber REB does not operate between June 20th and September 2nd. Submissions for delegated review must be received by Monday June 9, 2025 at noon in order to be considered during the 2024/2025 academic year. Applications may be submitted after this date, but they will not be reviewed until REB activities resume in September 2025.

Institutional Approval

All internal and external researchers planning to conduct research involving the collection of data from Humber staff, faculty, students, or access to institutional data/resources, must obtain institutional approval in addition to Humber Research Ethics Board (HREB). HREB approval does not automatically constitute Institutional Approval, and vice versa. Institutional Aprroval is granted by the Office of the Senior Vice-President, Academic. Meeting Dates

REB meetings are held on Thursdays, two weeks following the submission deadlines. The REB does not meet in July or August.
