Types of Medical Care available

Doctor’s Offices

  • You usually need to call and make an appointment.
  • May have after-hours care.
  • A doctor will see you for health concerns like injuries, cough, cold or sore throat, abdominal pain, birth control, bladder infections, sexually transmitted disease (STD’s) etc.
  • Shorter waiting times.

Walk-in Clinics

  • You do not need an appointment.
  • May have after-hours care, call ahead for their hours.
  • A doctor will see you for health concerns like injuries, cough, cold or sore throat, abdominal pain, birth control, bladder infections, sexually transmitted disease (STD's) etc.
  • Longer waiting times.

Urgent Care Clinics

  • You do not need an appointment.
  • After-hours care, call ahead for their hours.
  • A doctor will see you for health concerns like injuries, cough cold or sore throat, abdominal pain, birth control, STI’s etc. and can diagnose and treat more serious health problems.
  • There are radiology (X-ray) and lab facilities, fracture clinics as well as other services and specialists on site where tests and treatments can be done.
  • If your problem is very serious you will be sent to a hospital emergency.
  • Waiting times varying depending on the urgency of your concern/condition.

Hospital Emergency Departments

  • For serious or possibly life-threatening illness or injury only.
  • Long waiting times (possibly several hours) if your problem is not serious.
  • If it is during regular office hours and not an emergency please come to the Health Centre, or go to a walk-in clinic or call to make an appointment at a doctor's office.

Please be thoughtful about where you go to get medical care. If this is not an emergency and it is during regular office hours, you can come to the Health Centre or go to a doctor’s office or walk-in clinic and help keep the costs of our health insurance down.

*After-hours and on weekends you can attend the Urgent Care Clinics which are usually open until 10:00 P.M. Monday to Friday. Call ahead if it is a weekend as hours may vary.
