Art Description (What inspired you to create the artwork?) For the longest time, I have avoided self portraits. I have felt uncomfortable with images of my
body reflected back at me, seeing how everyone else perceives me, and how different that is
with how I perceive myself.
Gender dysphoria creates a disconnect between how I view myself and how others view me. With that, I never liked looking at myself in the mirror. I still don't think how I view myself is fully
reflected in this image, but maybe that's okay. Maybe there is something beautiful in how I
experience my gender completely unto myself, regardless of others. This will develop into a
series exploring gender, and how colour and texture can help people express themselves in
playful and truthful ways.
