Join us for our first session of BLAQ Collective for the Fall Semester where we will be going to the AGO. During our visit there are multiple exhibitions highlighting the work of Black and Queer artists that we can explore. Attendees will meet at the Lakeshore LGBTQ+ Resource Centre then take the TTC over to the AGO. Return TTC tickets will be provided to attendees; once we arrive at the AGO you will be free to explore on your own and will be able to leave at your own convenience.
BLAQ Collective is a program designed for students who identify as Queer and Black. As space for this event is limited we are asking that attendees hold one of those identities to attend

The IGNITE Black Excellence Scholarship was created in 2021 to recognize five outstanding students and upcoming leaders within the Black and African community here at Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber. Recipients of the $1,000 scholarship are selected based on their academic standing, their demonstration of leadership and community involvement, as well as their financial need.
Applications for Black Excellence Scholarship will open on February 1, 2024.

About the Speaker:
Mary Anne Chambers O.Ont., M.S.M., Hon LL.D. Dr. Mary Anne Chambers was named the 10th Chancellor of the University of Guelph in April 2022. A former Scotiabank Senior Vice-President and former Ontario Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities and Minister of Children and Youth Services, Mary Anne has served as a member of the Board of Governors of Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC), as Chair of the Board of United Way of Canada, Vice-Chair of the Governing Council of the University of Toronto, President of the Canadian Club of Toronto, Governor of the Air Cadet League of Canada, Vice-Chair of the Boards of Cuso International and Rouge Valley Health System, President of the Project for Advancement of Early Childhood Education (Canada), and member of the Boards of the United Way of Toronto, the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and YMCA Toronto. She was also a Director of GraceKennedy Ltd. and the GraceKennedy Financial Group. Mary Anne is currently a member of the Board of Trustees of Ingenium, Canada’s Museums of Agriculture and Food, Aviation and Space, and Science and Technology. She is also Chair of the Board of Grace Foods Canada Inc., a subsidiary of GraceKennedy Ltd. Mary Anne was named to the Order of Ontario in 2015 and is a recipient of the Governor General of Canada’s Meritorious Service Medal. She has been awarded the Degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, by the University of Toronto, York University, Lakehead University and the University of Guelph.Among her other awards are the Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee Medals of Queen Elizabeth the Second and a YWCA Toronto Woman of Distinction award. Her memoir, From the Heart, was published by Dundurn Press in 2022.

As a writer and thought-leader, Tracey Michae’l Lewis-Giggetts offers those who read her work and hear her speak an authentic experience; an opportunity to explore the intersection of culture, identity and faith/spirituality at the deepest levels. She is the founder of HeARTspace, a healing community created to serve those who have experienced trauma of any kind through the use of storytelling and the arts. Her workshop aims to:
1. Define Black Joy - Historical/Cultural and Present Day Context;
2. Discuss ways one can cultivate joy in personal and professional spaces and relationships;
3. Share how and why Black Joy lives alongside Black trauma, pain, and rage; and
4. Explain the role of allies and accomplices in de-centering whiteness and amplifying Black Joy.

Through an intersectional lens, participants in this session will:
• Identify and discuss the current challenges in professional environments experienced by Black professionals and the barriers that exists to addressing them
• Increase understanding of the concept of resiliency and its relevance for Black professionals in the work and learning environment
• Share tools and techniques that support the activation of resilience for Black community within the work and learning environment
