The Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation is home to some of the most transformative applied research projects in the sector. The sky is the limit when it comes to the interdisciplinary projects that are possible in the Barrett CTI.

CONSIDER THE POSSIBILITIES

For example, projects could include these types of collaborations:

Cosmetic Management and Industrial Design

A team of Cosmetic Management and Industrial Design students alongside professors could work with a major Canadian cosmetics company to design packaging for a new line of products. The challenge faced by the company could be that their natural products require some airflow to prolong shelf life. Together, the team would work on a solution to help launch a new line and garner positive business outcomes.

Bachelor of Commerce, Finance and Game Programming

A professor from the Bachelor of Commerce, Finance program could work with a group of students to help a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) to develop a program to teach the elements of finance to young children to set them up for success. To help the SME achieve its business goals, students and faculty from the Game Programming program could be brought in to gamify the educational program and make it appealing and engaging for the target audience.

Supply Chain Management and Electromechanical Engineering Technology

Professors and students from the Supply Chain Management program could help review supply chain systems for efficiencies. Electromechanical Engineering Technology students could recommend the latest techniques for automating current manufacturing processes.

STUDENTS

By getting involved with applied research projects, students can get hands-on experience in their field before graduation. This can take place through capstone class projects or getting hired for an internship. Students can also work as a research assistant on an applied research project where they can help solve real-world business challenges with an industry partner and a faculty member.

FACULTY & STAFF RESEARCHERS

The Humber Applied Research & Innovation department enables faculty members to pursue their own research interests and engage students as active members of the research team. Projects allow faculty members to stay actively involved in their field, cultivate industry partnerships, and provide intensive work experiences for students.
