Humber’s Transition Plan for Current Learners

Welcome to Humber’s transition plan for current learners (individuals starting the Real Estate Education Programs) prior to July 1, 2025. The current real estate education programs (Real Estate Salesperson Program and Real Estate Broker Program) delivered by Humber Polytechnic will be phased out by September 30th. Current learners will have the opportunity to continue, uninterrupted in the program until that time.

We have defined the period from now until September 30th as the “Transition Period”. This means that the current program is only available until September 30th. After September 30th, learners will have the opportunity to continue their studies in the updated programs within their prescribed program completion dates.

This page is designed to provide you with information and important dates and will be updated regularly as new details are available.

Humber will also communicate information directly to learners.

Subject: Update to Changes to Real Estate Registration Education

Building on the success of the single-provider model, RECO is proceeding with its planned expansion of its education delivery providers by introducing multiple post-secondary institutions. Earlier this month, the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) announced four education providers including Humber Polytechnic, who will deliver real estate registration education across Ontario starting as early as summer 2025.

Please note that this announcement does not have an immediate impact on current learners. You will be able to complete your program with Humber Polytechnic. Please see the table below for important dates and deadlines for the current program. Humber will keep the registration pages up to date to ensure ample course and simulation session availability. Humber will also continue to have virtual and in-person examinations across the province available for registration.

Current learners who do not complete the program prior to the end of September will have options for continuing the program with Humber. More information for this will be provided in the coming months.

Learners are encouraged to plan their studies accordingly. If learners are not able to complete the program prior to the end of September, it is strongly encouraged that learners plan to complete, at the very least, the next eLearning course and its associated exam before the communicated exam enrollment deadlines.

At Humber Polytechnic, we remain committed to being your trusted education provider. We will continue to support you throughout your learning journey and will ensure scheduling options will be available to support your needs along your learning journey.

Stay tuned for further updates in the coming months regarding the transition.

RECO Announcement

Transition FAQs

The contract between RECO and NIIT, in partnership with Humber Polytechnic, was originally set for five years and was extended for an additional year to mid-2025, with the understanding that RECO would be moving from a single education provider to multiple providers.

Education institutions from across the province were invited by RECO to participate in the application process to become a provider of real estate education in Ontario. Humber applied to continue offering real estate education programs independent of NIIT and was selected to be among the four RECO approved providers of real estate education in Ontario.

RECO’s decision to move from a single provider to multiple education providers is part of the organization’s longstanding strategy to elevate real estate education in Ontario and provide learners with more choice and flexibility to complete their education requirements.

Learners enrolled in the current Real Estate Education Program can continue working towards program completion until early September 2025. Learners who are unable to complete the entire NIIT/Humber Polytechnic program by the end of the transition period will have the opportunity to transfer to the new program being offered by Humber.

To make this transition as smooth as possible, learners are strongly encouraged to complete as much of the current program as possible. Where timelines do not permit completion of the program, learners are encouraged to complete both the eLearning Course or Simulation and its associated exam or assessment (if applicable) before the deadlines in September.

Learners can be confident that they will be able to seamlessly continue their studies at Humber. Humber will keep learners informed about specific deadlines related to course completion, examinations and transfer to the new program (if applicable).

Humber will provide guidance to learners on how to transition to the new programs if they are unable to complete the NIIT/Humber Polytechnic program by September 2025. Humber encourages learners to complete as much of the current program as possible before that time, and at a minimum, to finish the assessment or exam associated with any eLearning course or simulation they are enrolled in before the exam completion deadlines in September. Enrollment and completion deadlines for program components will be clearly outlined on the program webpage.

Learners interested in starting the real estate education programs this spring may enroll in the current NIIT/Humber Polytechnic program until June 30, 2025.

In the new program, the learning path remains unchanged. Learners will still progress through the eLearning courses, simulations, examinations and assessments in the same sequence. The content of the courses, simulations and examinations/assessments will be updated in the new program. In the new program examinations will be conducted through a RECO approved assessment service provider.

The learning path and overall time to complete the program remains unchanged. Learners have until Sept 30, 2025, to complete as much of the program as possible. Access to eLearning courses will expire on that date. At that time learners will have the opportunity to transfer to the new program.

For learners enrolled in the current NIIT/Humber Polytechnic program, the examination registration process will remain unchanged until September 16, 2025. For learners that transition to the new program, examinations will be conducted through a RECO approved assessment service provider.

Examinations in the new program will test updated course content. Learners must complete the eLearning course or simulation session and associated examination or assessment in the current program before transferring to the new program.

Further details on how learners will transfer to the new program and register for exams will be provided at a later date.

Humber Polytechnic will keep learners informed about program changes and available options through direct email communications. This information will be posted here on this Transition Plan webpage.

Learners in the current program are not required take additional courses to address changes in legislation. The legislation has been amended, not replaced. Humber learners can proceed with confidence through the current course content with the understanding that learning about the Real Estate and Business Brokers Act, 2002 (REBBA), now renamed Trust in Real Estate Services Act, 2002 (TRESA), provides a solid foundation for learners because the majority of the legislation remains unchanged. Fundamental obligations under the law remain.

To keep learners informed and equipped, RECO included TRESA content into the current Real Estate Salesperson Program:

  • Course 5 of the Pre-Registration phase includes the RECO 2024 Update Course: Introduction to TRESA.
  • The mandatory Post-Registration compliance course has included the RECO 2024 Update Course: Introduction to TRESA.

For learners in the Real Estate Broker Program, as registrants with RECO, the 2024 Update Course: Introduction to TRESA is available through your RECO MyWeb account.

The requirements for completion of the real estate education programs and registration eligibility with RECO are not affected by the transition. Successful completion of the existing programs will continue to satisfy the education requirements to register with RECO as a salesperson or broker.
